Sculpture Courses for Surgeons

Sculpture Courses on behalf of the Royal College of Surgeons

Sculpture for Surgeons

31st July — 3rd August, 2010 Cambridge, England, U.K.

Luke has been invited to teach this course at the Royal College of Surgeons of England over the past 10 years. The course is specifically designed to give plastic and maxillofacial surgeons the practical training of developing hand eye coordination. A sculptural course had previously been convened by Brian Morgan and run by the Raven College, the educational wing of the RCS. The course is now based in Cambridge and convened by Per Hall FRCS (Plast).

“The hand cannot always coordinate the shapes the mind sees. The course is about closing that gap and training surgeons to understand what their eye sees through the development of a 3-D visual language.”

Luke also leads sculpture courses from his studio in Devon and although these are often attended by both artists and surgeons alike, “Sculpture for Surgeons” is more specific to surgeons.

Testimonials

We were delighted with the way (the course) went and realised that it was thanks to your expertise Luke and your great teaching abilities.

Ron Pigott — Royal College Surgeons of England

Thank you once again for a most successful 'Heads' course. It was just wonderful to see a bunch of surgeons respond to your teaching and learn how to look accurately. What is more they all had so much enjoyment doing it.

Brian Morgan — Royal College Surgeons of England

thank you for your patient instruction last week. I don't know when I enjoyed a week as much...and it has certainly heightened my perception of facial features.

Alan — course participant
